Plant-Based Cooking Classes

Cooking and sharing food together is such an important part of life.

My love of cooking and learning about cuisines from around the world took off in 2018 when I started volunteering for Made in Hackney, a wonderful plant-based community kitchen and cooking school in London.

With my background in nutrition I was soon asked to start teaching classes with specific nutrition focuses, but along with this I discovered a passion for promoting zero waste cooking and fermenting so I now also teach these.

Upon moving to Devon I started working with asylum seekers and refugees and started holding ‘Cultural Kitchen’ sessions in collaboration with the Apricot Centre (an amazing organic & biodynamic farm in Dartington).

So I am now lucky enough to have learned more about the cuisines of Iran, Algeria, Georgia, Ukraine, Trinidad and El Salvador, to name just a few. And with my Ethiopian heritage I loved deepening my knowledge of Ethiopian food. So I now offer a range of classes that can be tailored to individual and group needs.

Here are some examples of the types of classes I have run in the past:

  • Examples of classes have run in the past:

    Good Mood Food

Zero Waste Cooking (with sub-themes of different countries or produce)

    Fermentation Fusion

    Ethiopian Cooking & Feasting

    Middle East Mezze Feast

    Healthy Comfort Foods

    Eat to Beat Inflammation

Eating to Prevent or Control Diabetes

    One Pot Wonders

    Low Energy Cooking

  • Children's Cooking Classes

Teaching children to cook with and love vegetables is another passion of mine. I have worked extensively with children and food in the NHS (as a paediatric dietitian) and with Made in Hackney and the Apricot Centre.

    Mind. Food. Fun.

This is a 5-week programme that I have designed for children to encourage them to explore the senses through food. Each week we focus on a different sense (taste, smell, touch, sight and sound) with recipes that highlight those aspects each week. It aims to give children (and parents) skills to build their confidence to get creative in the kitchen, whilst also incorporating mindful eating exercises. It is suitable for ages 6-14 and can be customized to individual and group needs.
